It has been my goal throughout my education to learn how my work can best influence and improve the lives of my community. In working towards the Masters of Science in Sustainable Design I have placed an emphasis on ensuring that everything I do is conscious of the effects of the decisions I'm making. I have simultaneously coupled this with a Masters of Architecture because I'd eventually like to be a licensed architect and practicing sustainability can’t mean forfeiting good, thoughtful design. As I move forward with my education over the next year and a half, and then into the professional realm, I will continue working towards the transfusion of good design and ecological responsibility in all of my work. Sustainability has taught me that a designer must stay up to date with the latest developments in materials and practices, which has caused me to take a real interest in the different technologies available. I have embraced the opportunity to learn new analysis and design programs and look forward to doing more experimenting with new and improving technologies in the future. Along with the experimentation that technology has provided, I also derive great pleasure from working with modeling and building; a learning process that relies on the influence of hands on experience. As I move towards the professional realm I will take with me not only the knowledge I've gained but the knowledge that there is much more out there to learn and experiment with and hope to continue to work hands on and with the latest in advancements. Outside of school Im an avid traveler, camper, and baseball fan. In the last few years I have taken trips to Chicago, New York, and Philidelphia, enjoying museums, landmarks, and entertainment venues. Last winter I went winter camping with friends and my sister to Zion and Bryce Canyon, really enjoying the unique landscape existing at both and am currently planning backcountry trips to the Badlands and the Appalacian Mountain Trail. Traveling to various cities provides me the chance to learn about our historical past and various cultures, and trips to our national parks provides the ability to step away from modern life for a few days, enjoying days of exploring our environmental preserves. |
