Arch 8561 -Sustainable Design: Theory and Practice- Professors Mary Guzowski and Doug Pierce- GDI

The WeeHouse is a prefab house by Alchemy Architects that I analyzed and redesigned to provide a green option in completion of ARCH 8561 - Sustainable Design Theory and Practice. The weehouse was originally marketed as a small footprint house that was cutomized by going through a checklist of options to make the basic design fit the user's needs. At the time the checklist did not contain sustainable or off the grid options. The main sustainable features for the WeeHouse was that its size encouraged smaller scale living and the factory built construction process created less waste.

My analysis revealed that it would be very easy to incorporate rainwater and grey water collection and to offer included appliances that were the most efficient and economically feasible on the market. The modular design and factory construction allowed new systems to be seamlessly incorporated, nearly disappearing from view. These changes allowed the WeeHouse to stay compact and transportable by truck to site with quick installation (less then a day).

Since my coursework, Alchemy Architects have begun offering more eco-friendly construction materials in their housing units and created a green brochure to show off the advantages of their product.
